Sam Berns
Sam Berns, a seventeen year old boy from Massachusetts, gave a TED Talk about his philosophy for a happy life. Sam’s philosophy revolves around a rare, rapid aging disease called Progeria that he was diagnosed with when he was just two years old. Despite this disease, which does cause many obstacles, Sam manages to live a very happy life. In his TED Talk, Sam discusses the three aspects of living a happy life:
Sam also discusses the importance of his family and friends, who have always supported him from the very beginning of his life. Sam's feels his happiest when he is with his family and friends, because they are able to provide positive outlooks and influences in his life. Sam's family and friends also are able to provide things for him to look forward to. Whether it be choosing a career that he wants to pursue or simply a new movie coming out, these occurrences keep Sam focused on the bright future ahead of him despite the difficult times that he may be going through. Sam ends his TED Talk by saying, “no matter what I choose to become, I believe that I can change the world, and as I’m striving to change the world, I will be happy.”
Sadly, Sam passed away on January 10, 2014 and despite his illness, he lived a happy life.
- Be OKAY with what you can not do because there is so much you CAN do.
- Surround yourself with people who make you happy.
- Keep moving forward.
