The Bare Necessities-Tony Bennet
The song “Bare Necessities” by Tony Bennett is most commonly known for being sung by Balu the bear in the Disney movie The Jungle Book. Behind all of the princesses and talking animals, Disney movies are known for having an important lesson that was taught throughout the film. In this case, the song “Bare Necessities” shows that people need not worry about things they cannot control and rather they should just be happy. This also means that people should not try and pursue happiness because certain events cannot be controlled, instead happiness should be created because choosing to be happy is something a person can control.
Balu the bear sings, “And don't spend your time lookin' around/ For something you want that can't be found/ When you find out you can live without it/ And go along not thinkin' about it/ I'll tell you something true/ The bare necessities of life will come to you” (Bennett, 1967). This means that people should not spend their time pursuing happiness which is something that many people want but cannot always find. Happiness is a bare necessity, therefore if happiness cannot be found, it must be created.
